The woman on this picture is a patient with bipolar disorder. She nonetheless leads a very rewarding life and is well recognized professionally and personally. During manic episodes, she writes and composes songs, which fuel her very successful career as a recording artist. Bath, UK, 13 September 2018...Bipolar disorder takes a heavy toll on the patients and their relatives. Many features associated with the disease are stigmatizing and conducive to severe solitude. Additionally, manic phases can be scary for the people around the patients. Yet, several patients described to me how manic phases can also be enjoyable, while they last, with a stiff price to pay afterwards. This series revisits some of these moments, as very personal portraits based on the descriptions given by patients about their own visions during manic phases...This is a portrait. Photographer used elements given by the patient during an in-depth, collaborative interview to produce a portrait reflecting personal elements characterizing her manic phases.
