During the course of a year-long project about bipolar disorder, I shot in many different situations and with a good number of patients, healthcare providers, and relatives. Bipolar disorder takes a heavy toll on the patients of course, but also on the relatives and even on the healthcare providers. I did however want to also stress that the diseases can, in some cases be stabilized to the extent that patients can lead a fulfilling life. I also wanted to dispel some misconceptions about bipolar disorder patients and show them in their daily reality, as could be anyone’s next door neighbor. This woman participated in my project and gave me many interesting insights. For this portrait, she explained to me how manic phases sometimes make her feel like she is "dissolving" in her environment, usually at night. - Geneva, Switzerland, 08 January 2018
