Où sont-ils ?
Manic phases are one of the hallmarks of bipolar disorder. During the course of a year-long project about the disease, I shot in many different situations and with a good number of patients. I then asked those who had shared their testimony about the disease if they would agree to describe their manic phases in great detail to me, and to make a sort of a "portrait" of their inner mental space during those moments. The woman on this picture readily agreed to it and described how manic phases induce in her an irresistible whirlwind of ideas, feelings and sensations. She added that she was (afterwards) left exhausted by all the new ideas and moments that crossed her mind during manic phases, but insisted that some aspects could be light-hearted and fun. She poses here in her town and in a personal space familiar to her. - Geneva, Switzerland, 18 January 2018
